About Tunza Future Foundation
Tunza Future Foundation is a non-profit organization founded by Winnie Wangui Waiyaki. Our mission is to advance gender equality and empowerment for all Kenyan women of all ages and improve their socio-economic status through strengthening their leadership, capacity building, advocacy, and research to address fundamental issues such as gender justice and equality.
Our founder, Winnie, was inspired to start Tunza Future Foundation after the passing of her mother, which made her take on the role of a mother figure to her siblings. Her desire to help the less fortunate and the dejected in the society led her to visit children's homes and donate food, clothes, and cash donated by her friends.
During her visits, Winnie discovered that the girl child is suffering and in need of sanitary towels, pants, hygiene training, and psychological help. She realized that the girls only keep quiet because no one is there to listen to them. As a result, Tunza Future Foundation focuses on providing the girl child with the necessary resources and support they need to succeed, including education, health, and emotional support. Our vision is to see Kenyan women discover their full potential, live up to their dreams while defeating all gender barriers. We believe that through mentorship, empowerment, teamwork, and equity, we can make a significant impact in ensuring that the girl child has a strong audible voice. By doing so, we hope to uplift the low self-esteem among them, reduce early marriages, and prevent school pregnancies.
We strive to achieve our mission by providing capacity building opportunities, mentorship, advocacy, and research on fundamental issues such as gender justice and equality. We are committed to making a positive impact across all 47 counties in Kenya, and we invite you to join us in our efforts to empower and uplift women and girls in our society.
