We hold the belief that the empowerment of women and girls is an essential prerequisite for the attainment of equal rights for all. The ability of women to be heard is not a mere right but a crucial solution to many of the world’s problems. Given that our mission centers on over half of Kenya’s population, our strategic plan gives priority to the advancement of women’s and girls’ rights in our programmatic endeavors. We also aim to tackle broader issues of sexual orientation and gender inclusion.
Despite significant progress made towards gender equality and women’s empowerment in the Millennium Development Goals, such as equal access to primary education for both girls and boys, women and girls still face discrimination and violence in all parts of the country.
Gender equality is not only a fundamental human right but also a critical foundation for a peaceful, prosperous, and sustainable Kenya. Regrettably, one in five women and girls between the ages of 15 and 30 have reported experiencing physical or sexual violence by an intimate partner within a 12-month period. Although harmful practices such as child marriage and FGM have decreased by 30% in the past decade, there is still much work to be done to eliminate or reduce these practices completely.
Providing women and girls with equal access to education, healthcare, decent work, and representation in political and economic decision-making processes will create sustainable economies and benefit societies and humanity as a whole.
Our organization relies on support from extraordinary partners – including foundations, nonprofit organizations and corporations to drive our work.
